HARES & HOUNDS NIGHT TRAIL – Run with the Hares, Hunt with the Hounds!

Exclusive Trail Running in a Private Game Reserve. Limited to 200 Entries.

About H&H: We’re introducing a night trail with a twist and with a lot of history dating back to the 1800’s so as much as we’ll try to keep to the traditional format, you’ll be in for a few surprises along the way. Selected “Hares” will have a slight head start and the aim is for the “Hounds” to catch the mischievous Hare & to keep the scent of the trail. Trails may contain a “false shortcut “ or “back pass” but a “beer check” where the pack stops to catch up to the group will be in the mix. Most important, you’ll need to make briefing so you get to understand the rules of the game! This is a fun social evening out on a long weekend so join us if you’d like to kick back to old traditions and new friends. Please Note; other than running amongst the Wild, no actual animals are being used on this themed trail.
Entry Includes: Finisher Medal (a branded glass followed by a complimentary craft beer after the trail), fully stocked waterpoints, exclusive access to well-marked trails, trail fees, medical support, restaurant & full bar onsite along with a true Wild African Experience! Note : Whilst the routes are different to that of our daylight trails and largely on jeep track, head torches are mandatory for all runners.
Start Time / Batches:
50 pax “Hounds” will depart as follows and the “Hares” will have an approx. 5-10 min lead time
18h00 / 10km batch
18h20 5km SLOW Batch
18h40 5km FAST Batch
Numbers are strictly limited
Registration: 45 minutes prior to batch start beginning from 18:00 (First briefing at 17h50 sharp)
Lucky Draw: As our ethos is around Experiences, we don’t do prizes for placings however a lucky draw with some great prizes will take place after the run so everyone has a chance!
Timing: Runners are required to record their individual time using their own devices if required. Once you cross the finish line please drop your wrist band into the bucket for our virtual lucky draw and write your timing down at the timing zone if needed for points. Timings will be published on our website in the week for Discovery Vitality Point submissions etc
General Information Venue: In the tranquility of the Zwartkops Mountains, on the banks of the Blaauwbank and Crocodile Rivers, lies Glenburn Lodge. Situated within the World Heritage Site, the “Cradle of Humankind”, this venue and spa is a mere 30 minutes from both Johannesburg and Pretoria, making it the ideal breakaway
Route: as there are no extreme climbs or immensely difficult terrain, Wild Africa Experiences have rated the route a 3/5 (5 being the most difficult). Note the routes may vary from our daylight trails at this venue. Walkers / hikers are more than welcome to join us on the 5km SLOW BATCH route.
Medal: Participants will receive a branded glass as your medal at the finish line with a well-deserved craft beer on us (only for runners 18 or older).
*** Due to the nature of the venue, game rangers on site as well as being a night run in the Reserve, there is a strict 1:30 hour cut off from batch one, ie 19h30
*** Runners will be required to have their own head lamp on them – please note this is absolutely compulsory
General Information :
Walkers / hikers are more than welcome to join us on 5km route
Cut off time is strictly 19h30 hours for park gates but you are welcome to stay & relax at the restaurant afterwards

There will be No Refunds due to rain or lightning cancellation
No licence is necessary to take part in the run
All runners/walkers participate at their own risk
Toilet facilities available at start / finish
Good secure parking available
Refreshments table available at various points along the run including water / coke
Late entries on the day will be charged an additional R30 per person
Strictly NO PETS allowed in the game reserve, this trail is based on old traditions with a few twists along the way and a lot of fun.

Withdrawal, Substitutions, Roll-overs:
All entry fees for the Event are non-refundable / non-transferable under all circumstances permitted by law, including, but not limited to, cancellation of the Event for any reason including withdrawal of your participation in the Event, or change in the date, nature, or format of the Event.
7 days and more prior to the event, refunds or roll-overs are permissible at the sole discretion of the organizer and based on medical grounds only. For refunds, an administration fee of 25% will be applicable. Alternatively, roll overs are valid for a maximum of 3 months with a maximum of one date change. If the participant does not, for any reason utilize the entry within 3 months, their entry will no longer be valid nor refunded.
0-6 days prior to the event, NO refunds or roll-overs are allowed, however substitutions are permissible at any time leading up to the event. Kindly ensure you email us on explore@wildafricaexperiences.co.za in order to assist further.
You acknowledge that the Event may be cancelled or changed due to government directives, severe weather or any other factors that may be considered to threaten the safety of participants as determined by the Event organiser in its sole discretion. We have always strived to deliver on each & every event but due to the nature of our activities, some natural elements are out of our hands. Unfortunately, there is a no refund policy on bookings due to rain or lightening.
